There are so many unknowns in the world. Socially. Personally. Politically. Financially. Who are YOU to take on a new challenge? What do you know?
I'm hear to tell you that you need to ignore the voices of doubt around you and dare to dream.
I understand the fear of failure and the need for income. My husband works for the state. I've got a child in an expensive private college. I have a mortgage. I have an old house that needs constant work. I've got one car with over 200,000 miles. If I stop and think about these responsibilities too much it makes my stomach hurt and I become incapacitated.
I also know that sometimes life gets static. And I'm very familiar with that gnawing feeling that personally or professional I am holding to tightly to the middle of the road.
As a creative we need to stay vibrant. And that means trying new things and pushing out the edges of our comfort zone.
We can't wait around for an invitation to take risks. And we can't ask for permission from others. We simply have to try new things—build our library of experiences.
And if you try something new and doesn't work out, remember that design is about iterations. Keep iterating until you hit on a solution that works.
